LEO FROHWIRTH:
Even before I began printmaking, I never liked to erase. I would always either draw in pen or push with pencils so hard that every tip would break. This insistence on trusting my lines has led to an internal confidence in my art that shows through in all of my work. I aim to make prints that are imposing on the space. My work leans into the naturally imperfect nature of printmaking to depict scenes that mix polarizing color and shape language with figures in intimate positions. By placing these figures in dramatic compositions and often surrounded by surrealist elements, I aim to create personal portraits that simultaneously explore the intensity of emotion and the contradicting vulnerability within the subject.Â
